The Rise of Jeans






Jean pants represent pants made with denim fabric. The word "jean" came from the Italy harbor genes where the fabric was imported. In 1850, Levi-Strauss used a tent made from jean. When the western part of America was populated because of the Gold Rush, people went to the west and hoped to strike it rich. Levi was there to sell the tent fabric, but when he saw the mineworkers pants start ripping, he used the durable tent fabric to make pants. This pant became popular and started to sell with the name Levi. Levi jeans are still around today and are considered timeless in the fashion industry. Throughout history, jeans have remained constant, although their connotation has not.

































In 1860, the pants were made with denim. In the 1900’s due to the active industry, jeans became transformed from being identified as work clothes to casual everyday clothes. western cowboys start to wear denim jeans, which showed a tough, powerful, and manly image in the 1930's. Jeans became the most popular during the 1950's. They provided a free and rebellious image to people. In the 1930’s movie, “Rebel Without a Cause,” James Dean wore jeans to display his tough image. During the 1980’s, jeans became a staple for youth. The jean design became more creative with different colors, designs and shapes.

The model for Calvin Klein Jeans was Brooke Shields, showing the youth’s playful and outgoing image. From the 1990’s to now, there are many different type of jeans being produced, and every year, the trend is changing. For the last 3 years, the skinny jean was most popular jean and now it is changing to boyfriend jean and jeggings (jean leggings). Different types of jeans include: wide, skinny, boot-cut, and cropped. In America, nearly everybody owns jeans. Walk onto a college campus, and it is filled with people wearing jeans. Stylish and comfortable, jeans will forever remain the pant of choice.
